Teresa Partearroyo, new Academic Member

The 15th Conference of the Spanish Society of Community Nutrition (SENC) was held at the Universidad de Deusto (Bilbao) from the 17th to the 19th of October. As part of this event, the Spanish Academy of Nutrition and Food Sciences (AEN) held an extraordinary meeting during which the Professor of Nutrition and Bromatology, Teresa Partearroyo, was sworn in as a new full member of the Academy. She delivered her induction speech entitled 'Present and Future of Hearing Health within the Framework of Precision Nutrition', following a commendation by Professor Gregorio Varela Moreiras, Head of the Nutrition for Life Research Group of Excellence and Director of the CEU Food and Society University Institute.

A significant number of professors and researchers from the Nutrition for Life Research Group of Excellence and the CEU Food and Society University Institute participated actively in the Conference. Of particular note was Professor Varela Moreiras’ inaugural lecture entitled ‘Challenges of Scientific Gastronomy in the Context of Community Nutrition’, while professor Ana Mª Montero intervened as a speaker in the symposium ‘New Alimentation Guides’, in the section on 'Update: Dairy, Fermented dairy and Vegetable drinks'. Also noteworthy was the symposium 'Reformulation of Food and Beverages: Where we are and Where we want to go', organised by the aforementioned research group, and in which professor Partearroyo gave a presentation on 'Photographing the food market in Spain Post-reformulation: Tabula® CEU project'.

For its part, the CEU Food and Society University Institute organised the symposium "Social Vulnerability and Nutritional Problems", in which professor Ana Maria Puga presented the topic "Impact of Social Vulnerability on Nutritional Status". A further notable presentation was that given by Professor Gregorio Varela Moreiras on 'Senior Nutrition: Challenges and Opportunities' during the round table session 'Nutrition and Ageing Processes'.

In addition, a total of five communications were presented by the professors and researchers Carmen Morais, Sara López, Marina Redruello, Alejandra Carretero and Julia Almazán. Four of these were selected as oral communications and one as a poster. One of the oral communications was awarded the runner-up prize for the best oral communication, while the poster won the prize for best communication in poster format.
