In the constant effort to connect university talent and the business world, CEU San Pablo University has held the third edition of its Innovation Week, organized in collaboration with Santander Universities:  an online event boasting the participation of around 400 registered students, from 19 domestic and international universities, and 30 companies from different sectors.

The rector of CEU USP, Rosa Visiedo, has described the event as "essential to enriching the training of our students, giving them the opportunity to interact with companies, entities and organizations." "The University has the obligation to train future leaders so that they can solve the challenges with which they are faced, from an innovative, optimistic and proactive perspective," she stressed. In this sense, in the "essential alliance between university and business", the rector has highlighted the work of the students, who she has described as "capable of understanding and internalizing, while at the same time reflecting upon and proposing their solutions to issues of great social impact as well as taking an active interest in the matters of innovation that are being undertaken by companies.

With 6 challenges in total, the students have faced the search for solutions to problems brought about by the pandemic, such as adapting to new work formats and new methods of commerce, the development of new technologies, mobility and connectivity in cities, or the management of health systems and patient care.

To respond to these challenges, the students have developed projects such as applications and web pages that promote the development of remote working and the well-being of employees, encourage sustainable travel, digitize restaurants, or avoid crowding in hospitals, as well as proposals aimed at facilitating communication for deaf people during the current use of face masks and at reducing the use of plastics and minimizing their environmental footprint, among others.

This digital event has enjoyed the participation of professionals such as Richard Benjamins, Chief AI & Data Strategist of Telefónica; Rodrigo García González, Co-Founder CoCEO of Notpla; Mª del Pilar González Gotor, Director of EU Programs and Territorial Cooperation CDTI; Borja Saracho Echevarría, CEO and Founder of ‘Crusoe Treasure’ (the world's first artificial reef winery); Carlos Hernández Rueda, Head of Agencies & Partners at Google; and Ángel Gómez de Agreda, geopolitical analyst at the Ministry of Defense.
