The director of the
Institute of Advanced Molecular Medicine (IMMA) and vice-dean of the Faculty of
Medicine, Dr. María M. Escribese,
has received the 2022 EAACI PhARF Award,
presented to her by Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden. Her Majesty was
the guest of honour at the celebratory ceremony organised by Thermo Fisher Scientific, a world
leader in service to science and sponsor of the award, at its headquarters in
Uppsala, Sweden.
Dr. Escribese was
honoured with the Award for her work in research and advances in understanding,
diagnosing, and managing allergic diseases. The award is one of the most
prestigious distinctions in the field of allergy research for individuals under
45 years of age and is presented annually by the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI).
At the ceremony, Her
Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden also presented the 2023 edition of the award, to
Dr. Milena Sokolovska, Head of the
Department of Immunometabolism at the Swiss Institute of Allergy and Asthma
Research (SIAF).
In its 37th edition,
the PhARF Award aims to continue contributing to the improved understanding of
mechanisms associated with allergic pathology and to funding future research
projects. In addition to the financial grant given to the institution Dr. Escribese
represents, Thermo Fisher Scientific invited the awardees to present their work
to the Thermo Fisher team and to visit the multinational company's facilities
at its Uppsala headquarters.
