The
University has become part of the ‘Rome Call for AI Ethics’, an international network of higher
education institutions who
share better practices, tools and educational content and will meet regularly
to implement updates, discuss innovative ideas and democratise solutions in the ethics of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The
rector of CEU USP, Rosa Visiedo,
has signed this agreement to join this initiative promoted by the Pontifical Academy for Life, IBM, Microsoft, the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the
United Nations (FAO) and the Italian
Ministry of Innovation, to promote an ethical approach to AI
that respects the dignity of all human beings. To this end, it
comprises six core principles: Transparency, Inclusion, Accountability, Fairness, Reliability, Security and Privacy.
In
accordance with this commitment, IBM is helping the Pontifical Academy of Life
to extend the call to higher education institutions to create a network of
universities willing to share how they make these principles operational, for
education and research purposes. For this reason, the technology company has
held a global university meeting at
the IBM-Notre Dame Tech Ethics Lab at
the University of Notre Dame
(Indiana, United States), so that universities who wish to do so can have the
opportunity to connect with other universities to build and use human-centred
technology in a way that is inclusive and sustainable.
