The
Spanish Society of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (SEAIC) has awarded its
first National SEAIC Foundation Professional Trajectory Awards 2023 to
Professor Tomás Chivato and Dr. Joaquín Sastre, in the categories of
teaching and research, during the 75th anniversary celebration of the Society
at its XXXIV National Congress.
These
awards aim to strengthen allergology as a scientific discipline of excellence
at the national level and to reward those who have dedicated their professional
or institutional careers to the study, development, and promotion of this speciality.
Professor
Tomás Chivato, Dean of the School of Medicine and Professor of Allergology,
received the Teaching Award which
recognises his merits in the field of education. Chivato has four six-year
research periods through the National Commission for Assessment of Research
Activity (CNEAI), is a corresponding member of the Royal National Academy of
Medicine of Spain, Vice President of Education and Speciality of the European
Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), a member of the
Professionalism Commission of the Madrid College of Doctors, and director of
the "Nemesio Diez" Chair of Medical Education and Humanisation. He
was also president of the SEAIC between 2006 and 2010.
Dr.
Joaquín Sastre, head of the Allergology department of the Fundación Jiménez
Díaz, has been recognised with the Research
Award for his outstanding research work over the years. The former
president of SEAIC has published 435 articles in PubMed, has an h-index of 66
according to the Web of Science and 80 according to Google Scholar. Likewise, the
number of citations exceeds 21,000. Dr. Sastre is also an associate editor of
the JIACI publication, fifth in the ranking of allergy journals worldwide, and
winner of the "Clinical Research Award Von Pirquet" of the European
Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (EAACI).
