COIL with Buffalo State University in New York
23/02/2023
José Luis Lavandera
, a professor from the Department of Basic Medical Sciences at the School of Medicine, is developing a COIL approach in coordination with professor
Anita Senthinathan
from the Department of Speech-Language Pathology at SUNY Buffalo State University of New York. Professors
Patricia Elhazaz Walsh
and
Brian Crilly Montangue
from the Humanities department are also collaborating on the project.
The aim of the COIL approach is to provide students with the opportunity to participate in interdisciplinary activities related to motor speech and language disorders, specifically dysarthria
. Graduate students in Speech-Language Pathology at Buffalo State University of New York and Neuroscience students in the Medicine degree programme will collaborate and debate throughout the COIL experience while working on real clinical case scenarios. Specific field considerations and cultural considerations will form the basis for learning experiences in an international online environment.
24 students from Buffalo State University
and
32 students from CEU San Pablo University
, divided into 12 mixed teams from both countries, will participate in a series of online sessions between February and May. In the final session, teams will defend and debate the clinical case assigned to each of them.
