Founded in the 1995/1996 academic year, the Department of Audiovisual Communication and Advertising is made up of a teaching staff of more than fifty lecturers, most of whom hold PhDs, many of whom combine academic and professional activity in the field of Communication. The specific subjects of the Degrees in Audiovisual Communication, Advertising and Public Relations and Digital Communication depend on this department and its lecturers are responsible for teaching the different subjects that make up the area of knowledge: cinema, institutional communication, creativity, design, photography, digital communication, marketing, new technologies, advertising, radio, public relations, television, etc.
Likewise, from the research point of view, the members of the teaching staff participate in different research projects with external and internal funding, are members of the research groups ICOIDI (Communication through image and design), INCIRTV (media convergence) and the Observatory of Corporate Social Responsibility Communication (Ocare); as well as participating in the Centre for Communication Trends of the University. The department is also responsible for the management of the SAI CARTV (Radio and Television Laboratories of the Audiovisual Centre), which like the rest of the University's Research Support Services offers specialised facilities and materials to facilitate research activity.
Finally, many of its professors are members of national and international professional and research associations such as the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, ACOP, AE-IC, ANIGP-TV, APM-FAPE, ASOCREA, CEC, DIRCOM, ECREA, ICA, SEP, Signis, DIMAD, etc.
In addition, the Faculty of Humanities and Communication Sciences is a member of the Spanish Association of Universities with Degrees in Information and Communication (ATIC).
