Correos has unveiled a commemorative TUSELLO marking the 90th
anniversary of the Fundación Universitaria San Pablo CEU, featuring a
photograph of Ángel Herrera, its founder and first president of the ACdP. The
event was attended by the rector of the Universidad CEU San Pablo, Rosa Visiedo, the dean of the School of
Medicine, Tomás Chivato, and the person in charge of the Culture and Science
area at the Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre of Madrid, Belén Yuste, along with the director of
Philately at Correos, Leire Díez.
The traditional honorary postmarking ceremony took place at the end of the
event.
The presentation of this TUSELLO
took place within the framework of the closing ceremony of the exhibition 'Philately and Health,' organised by the
Philately department of Correos and the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit
of the Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre, with the collaboration of the
cultural company Rocaviva Eventos.
This travelling exhibition, on
display in the halls of the Institute of Technology of Universidad CEU San
Pablo in recent months, takes visitors on a
journey through the history of medicine and health through stamps from
different eras: from antiquity to
the present day, including the Middle Ages and the Modern Age. It pays
special attention to medical specialties
and the concepts of health and disease,
as well as the biological, environmental, socioeconomic, labour, and personal
factors that interfere with them.
The exhibition features prominent Spanish and foreign scientists who have
left their mark on the evolution of Medicine: Hippocrates, Averroes, Leonardo
da Vinci, Miguel Servet, Robert Koch, Wilhelm Roentgen, Marie Curie, Santiago
Ramón y Cajal, Severo Ochoa, or Margarita Salas, as well as eminent doctors such as Francisco
Xavier Balmis, Josep Trueta, Christiaan Barnard, Gregorio Marañón, Carlos
Jiménez Díaz, or Ignacio Barraquer; and Florence Nightingale, a pioneer in
nursing development.
Monasteries,
universities, and nursing schools
This philatelic collection
reflects the care and teaching work
carried out in monasteries by religious orders until the emergence of universities and nursing schools.
Disability, solidarity, international cooperation, citizen participation, and
volunteering are highlighted on stamps dedicated to examples of overcoming
challenges, such as Helen Keller or Louis Braille. The exhibition also
addresses various emergency response
institutions, blood donation and
organ transplantation, as well as
various volunteer actions. Moreover,
the exhibition also covers major
epidemics that have plagued humanity, including COVID-19. The final panel
is dedicated to the groups that have
risked their lives on the front lines in these risky
situations, especially in the healthcare sector.
The exhibition covers the 17 Sustainable Development Goals promoted
by the United Nations, including poverty and hunger eradication, health and
well-being, education, gender equality, water, affordable and clean energy,
work, industry and innovation, inequality eradication, sustainable cities,
responsible production and consumption, climate, life underwater and on land,
peace and justice, solidarity, and alliances to achieve these goals.
The exhibition tour consists of 18 panels - created with high-quality
design, historical accuracy, and language accessible to all types of audiences
- comprising 18 frames with nearly 200 stamps alluding to various
presented topics, spanning from the reign of Alfonso XIII to the present day.
Additionally, there are 17 display cases
with national and international philatelic and numismatic material.
Before arriving at the Institute
of Technology of Universidad CEU San Pablo, the 'Philately and Health'
exhibition was on display at the Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre, the
School of Medicine at the Complutense University of Madrid, the School of
Medicine at the University of Zaragoza, the Estación de la Ciencia y la
Tecnología of Burgos, and the Royal National Academy of Medicine. From February
9th to April 8th, it will be available for viewing at the Science Museum in
Valladolid.
