At the invitation of the Faculty of
Economics and Business Studies, the CEO of Telefónica, José María
Álvarez-Pallete, has given a Masterclass to students on the influence of
technology at the present time. During his talk the CEO went on to explain how
data has become a commodity in the modern world: "We are in the age of
digital slavery; we give our data away for free", he declared. He urges
all of us to question the values we want to have as a society. "In life we
must have a clear vision and purpose, with long-term impact, and be guided by
values. It is people who give meaning to technology and not the other way
around", he insisted.
Álvarez-Pallete then addressed the students
directly, encouraging them in their future career: "Don't worry if you are
not clear about what you want to do, it is not a problem; at certain times,
life will provide you with options that will help you make decisions about your
professional life".
The Executive Chairman of Telefónica was
accompanied by the President of the San Pablo CEU University Foundation,
Alfonso Bullón de Mendoza; the Vice-Rector for Institutional Relations, María Bellido;
and the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies, Ricardo Palomo.
