Dual Degree in  Law + International Relations and European Union

Recommended profile for incoming students 

In order to define the ideal profile of the new students who wish to access this degree, we take into account the final educational objectives that we intend to achieve, in three aspects: 

• Students. We want our students to have intellectual curiosity and to be willing to work both personally and as part of a team. In this regard, in the selection process, special attention is paid to the candidates' interaction and dialogue skills. It is also important that the student is able to understand that the subjects are not watertight compartments, but are part of an overall plan or system of knowledge. Consequently, from the outset, we ask our students - especially at the interview and, after admission, during the two-week zero-preparatory Academic Year given to them - to renounce a purely rote and "legalistic" concept of law. In this sense, a series of basic skills or abilities are valued, among which the following stand out: comprehensive reading and the ability to interpret texts; writing or editing; and public speaking. Likewise, emphasis is placed on the vocation of service and the idea of justice as a reference value of law, both in its theoretical and practical aspects. 
• Internationalization: Students following this Dual Bachelor’s degree must have a clear vocation towards internationalization. It is not possible to specialize in European and international legal fields without being interested in other cultures, other countries, other legal systems. The ability to adapt to new environments, especially during mobilities, but also when integrating the numerous foreign students who year after year choose our Academic Years in European Union and International Relations integrated in this Dual Bachelor’s degree. Therefore, during the selection process, priority will be given to students with international experience. We will train students capable of developing their professional careers in a global environment and we will design Academic Years and extracurricular activities, such as the European Moot Court Competition, so that their time at CEU will be a springboard to jump into the international professional arena.
• Multilingualism: In addition to the entry requirements (fluency in languages other than English will be positively valued), there is also the need to learn second and third languages (French and/or German). This will allow active participation in seminars, projects and activities that use foreign languages as a working tool and that reproduce professional situations that students will face at the end of their studies.
• Future professionals. Candidates must have a solid specialized training. It is intended that, at the end of their training, the professional will master the legal language and have a good understanding of a basic map of concepts (which will allow them to interpret the legal system and solve the practical problems that arise). In this way, he/she will be able to efficiently face and solve the challenges he/she faces.
• Education. This will be of an integral nature, which means that it must be dogmatic -theoretical and systematic-, but also practical and committed. In this context, dialogue, as a learning tool, and the technique of debates are promoted. This training must be, and is, essential and systematic, so that the fundamental concepts can be clearly understood.
