Universidad CEU San Pablo has applied for “Eligibility” status with the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC).
After reviewing the application, WSCUC has determined that the institution is eligible to proceed with an “Application for Accreditation”. It is important to note that the qualification of “Eligibility” is not a formal status with WASC, nor does it automatically guarantee subsequent accreditation. This designation represents a preliminary evaluation that recognizes the institution's potential to obtain accreditation from the University in the United States and allows it to move forward in the process.
The University has submitted a Self-Study Report on its compliance with WSCUC quality standards, to show evidence of the institutional commitment to continuous improvement, educational effectiveness and accountability, accompanied by an Application for Initial Accreditation. For this reason, the University is in the preparation phase for the first institutional visit (May 2025) and the analysis and evaluation of its subsequent report (June 2025). Both of these actions are key and are considered an essential part of the review process to obtain initial accreditation within the established deadlines. The purpose of the institutional visit is to evaluate in situ the institutional capacity and educational effectiveness of the university, including the coherence of the institutional mission, the quality of the academic programs, the culture of self-evaluation and continuous improvement, as well as the results of graduates in the labor market.
Within a maximum period of five years from the determination of “Eligibility”, the institution may be considered for “Candidacy” or “Initial Accreditation” status by the Commission.
The process followed by the University therefore comprises several stages: In a previous phase, after expressing its interest, it obtained a favorable result that allowed it to start the process. In Phase 1 it was declared “eligible” to apply for accreditation. In Phase 2, it completed the submission of the self-assessment report and the formal application for accreditation. Currently, the institutional visit (Phase 3) is being prepared, as well as the reception and analysis of the evaluation report. The following phases include the decision on accreditation (Phase 4), which can lead to the granting of “Candidacy” or “Initial Accreditation” status, and finally, Phase 5, which focuses on monitoring and renewal to ensure continuous improvement.
